Michael S. Morris, Esquire
Michael Smith Morris has been practicing law for over thirty (30) years. He is involved in all areas of labor and employment law representing employers and employees. His concentration is in the New Jersey Conscientious Employee Protection Act. In addition, he represents employers and employees on matters involving The New Jersey Law Against Discrimination (“NJLAD”). The NJLAD prohibits employers from discriminating against employees based upon race, creed, color, national origin, nationality, ancestry, age, sex (including pregnancy), familial status, marital status, domestic partnership or civil union status, affectional or sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, atypical hereditary cellular or blood trait, genetic information, liability for military service, and mental or physical disability, perceived disability, and AIDS and HIV status.
Mr. Morris graduated from Holy Cross College in Worcester, Massachusetts with a major in history and minor in accounting. After college he pursued his legal education at Widener University School of Law earning his Juris Doctor degree in 1984. He then earned his LL.M. in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center in 1985. Mr. Morris’ published works includes two Law Review articles entitled Zapata v. Maldonado: The Business Judgment Rule and The Enforceability of Agreements Providing for Forum and Choice of Law Selection and a chapter for inclusion in the best selling book: Business: The Ultimate Resource - Tackling Sexual Harassment in the Workplace.
Mr. Morris has strong counseling and negotiating skills as well as litigation experience based upon his background of having served an Appellate Court clerkship, as an Assistant District Attorney, in-house legal counsel and Assistant Counsel for the Department of Revenue Office of Chief Counsel before entering private practice. He remains active in Pennsylvania politics where he serves as an elected constable.
Mr. Morris’ diverse background enables him to focus on the client’s labor and employment concerns while retaining a universal approach to the economic impact on the client. His broad business and legal experience has successfully guided clients in their employee relations, responsibilities to their shareholders, regulatory obligations and defense against employment-related claims.
Mr. Morris has argued on behalf of clients before the Superior Court, the Appellate Division of the Superior Court and the New Jersey Supreme Court. In addition, he has represented clients before the various State and Federal Administrative Agencies.
